When my clients approached me about furnishing their Northwood Hills home in Dallas, they were entering a new season of life as soon-to-be empty nesters. Downsizing from a larger family home meant making thoughtful decisions about what to bring forward — and how to ensure their new space still felt layered, personal, and welcoming.
Balancing Boldness with Refinement
Early in the process, they shared a surprisingly bold inspiration: they were particularly drawn to the color “tomato soup red.” It’s a commanding, rich, character-filled hue, and at first we weren’t sure how to incorporate it without allowing it to dominate the home.
As the design evolved, however, that bold color became our guiding thread. We found elegant, intentional ways to weave it throughout the interiors — creating moments of warmth, personality, and visual continuity while maintaining balance and sophistication. The result is a home that feels vibrant yet calm, expressive yet cohesive, with spaces that flow effortlessly from one to the next.
One defining moment came in the kitchen. I proposed a backsplash that carried this color story forward in a bold yet refined way — and at first, my clients weren’t convinced. It felt like a big move, and we talked through it from every angle, revisiting samples, scale, and how it would live within the larger design of the home.
Ultimately, they chose to trust the vision. Now, they tell me that backsplash is their favorite part of the entire house — a daily reminder that the most meaningful design moments often begin just outside our comfort zone.

Honoring What Matters Most
For me, this project is a reminder that downsizing isn’t about having less — it’s about living more intentionally. By carefully blending meaningful existing pieces with thoughtfully selected new furnishings, we created a home that honors my clients’ history while supporting their next chapter.
The finished spaces feel confident, comfortable, and deeply personal — proof that when design is rooted in story and purpose, a home never feels smaller. It simply feels right.
If you’re planning a move, renovation, or full furnishing project in Dallas or beyond, I’d love to help you create a home that reflects your story and supports the way you live — beautifully and intentionally.
